Biography

Tony Reno, born Tony Niemistö in Sweden in 1963, is a drummer best known for his formative role in the Swedish hard rock band Europe. He became involved with the group during its early development in Upplands Väsby, near Stockholm, after Europe was formed by vocalist Joey Tempest, guitarist John Norum, bassist Peter Olsson, and Reno in 1979. The band emerged during a period when British and American hard rock strongly influenced Sweden’s developing metal scene. Reno’s early work with Europe helped establish the driving rhythm-section foundation that supported the group’s melodic guitar writing and dramatic vocal arrangements.
