Chino Moreno emerged from Sacramento's underground music scene in the late 1980s, where his distinctive vocal approach began to take shape. Born in 1973, he formed the core of Deftones with guitarist Stephen Carpenter, bassist Chi Cheng, and drummer Abe Cunningham, crafting a sound that fused heavy metal with moodier, melodic textures.
