Peter Edward Thompson was born on March 12, 1985 in Portland, Oregon, and grew up in a household where music was a daily companion. He picked up the guitar at 12 after receiving a battered sunburst Strat from his father, and quickly discovered a passion for heavy music that fused power with melody. His early influences ranged from Metallica and Iron Maiden to Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, and the raw energy of early grunge. In high school he formed Crimson Halo, a tight-knit outfit that played local clubs and house parties while building a dedicated regional following. By 2001 the band released an independent debut, Rites of the Fallen, followed by the moodier Dark Corridor in 2003, establishing Thompson as a guitarist capable of ferocious riffing and evocative hooks. Those local successes opened the door to Nightforge, which Thompson joined in 2005 as the primary guitarist and principal composer. Over the next eight years the band released The Iron Veil (2007) and Ashes of the Crown (2009), then broadened their reach with Scarlet Reign (2012) and a string of headline tours.
