Mike Portnoy, born on April 20, 1967, in Long Beach, New York, is a renowned American drummer and songwriter, largely recognized for his dynamic contributions to the progressive metal genre. His passion for music led him to co-found the groundbreaking band Dream Theater in 1985, while he was still attending the Berklee College of Music.
