Biography

Mark Stoermer emerged from Las Vegas's burgeoning underground scene, where the cross-pollination of post-punk, new wave, and classic rock formed his musical identity. Born in 1977, Stoermer built his craft in local bands while working day jobs, absorbing influences from The Police, U2, and The Cure, along with garage rock bands in the late 1990s. His path crossed with a group of local musicians who would become The Killers; with drummer Ronnie Vannucci Jr. and guitarist Dave Keuning, Stoermer joined as the band's bassist around 2002-2003 after sending demos and going through auditions. He quickly anchored the group's groove, translating the vehement urgency of their songs into a propulsive, melodic bass voice that helped define the early Las Vegas sound that would reach a global audience. With The Killers, Stoermer contributed to a string of multi-platinum albums and hit tours. The group's debut LP Hot Fuss (2004) became a worldwide sensation, delivering anthems like Mr. Brightside and Somebody Told Me and establishing the band as one of the era's defining acts. Sam's Town (2006) followed, delivering arena-ready tracks such as When You Were Young and Read My Mind, while Day & Age (2008) brought widescreen arrangements and a broader sonic palette. The lineup's momentum continued with Battle Born (2012) and Wonderful Wonderful (2017), and later Imploding the Mirage (2020) and Pressure Machine (2021), each project expanding the band's reach beyond the club to stadiums and festival stages.
