James Iha, born on March 26, 1968, in Chicago, Illinois, is a celebrated musician and songwriter best known as the guitarist of the iconic alternative rock band The Smashing Pumpkins. He graduated from the prestigious Lane Tech College Prep High School and later pursued a degree in psychology at Loyola University Chicago. In the early days of his career, Iha played in various Chicago bands, ultimately forming The Smashing Pumpkins in 1988 with frontman Billy Corgan. His unique guitar work and melodic sensibilities were central to the band's distinctive sound, contributing to their rapid rise in the 1990s music scene.
