Gary Cherone, born on July 26, 1961, is an American rock vocalist and songwriter best known for his work as the frontman of the band Extreme and as lead singer for Van Halen. His journey in music began in Malden, Massachusetts, where he was influenced by a mix of rock and roll, punk, and the emerging alternative scene of the late 70s and early 80s. Cherone formed the band Extreme with guitarist Nuno Bettencourt in 1985, which marked the beginning of a prolific career characterized by innovative music and powerful stage performances. Throughout his extensive career, Cherone gained widespread recognition for his time with Extreme from 1986 onwards, particularly for their hits like "More Than Words" and "Hole Hearted," which showcased his versatile vocal range and lyrical depth.
