Biography
Dick Heckstall‐Smith was an influential British saxophonist, born on September 16, 1934. His early career laid the foundation for what would become a significant contribution to the British blues and jazz scene. Originally hailing from a family that appreciated music, Heckstall‐Smith developed a passion for playing the saxophone at a young age. His unique sound and style began to emerge during the early 1960s when he joined Alexis Korner’s Blues Incorporated, a pivotal band in the UK’s blues movement. This experience helped him to hone his craft and establish himself in the burgeoning music scene of London, characterized by vibrant clubs and live performances that spotlighted raw talent and innovative sounds.
