Roger McGuinn, born James Roger McGuinn on July 13, 1942, in Chicago, Illinois, is an iconic American musician best known as the founding member of The Byrds. His journey began in the early 1960s when he was influenced by folk music and the burgeoning rock scene. After forming The Jet Set, which later evolved into The Byrds, McGuinn developed a unique sound characterized by his jangly guitar style and innovative use of the Rickenbacker guitar. His early experiences in the folk clubs of Chicago and Los Angeles helped shape his lyrical storytelling, which became a hallmark of his work. He gained immense popularity through his appearances on radio and television, capturing the imaginations of a generation through classics like 'Turn! Turn! Turn!' and 'Mr. Tambourine Man'.
