Biography

Richard Z. Kruspe was born on June 24, 1967 in Wittenberge, East Germany. He picked up the guitar as a teenager and quickly developed a dense, muscular riffing voice that would become the foundation of his career. Growing up behind the Iron Curtain, Kruspe absorbed a blend of Western hard rock and metal with the emerging industrial sounds that would later define the genre known as Neue Deutsche Härte. In the late 1980s and early 1990s he played in local groups, honing a tight, rhythm-forward approach and building a reputation as a guitarist who could drive a song with precision and power. This period laid the groundwork for his later work with Rammstein, where theatricality and sonic heft would become defining features.
