Mikael Stanne emerged from the Swedish metal underground at the end of the 1980s, signing his place in Gothenburg's rapidly evolving melodic death metal scene. He began as a guitarist and vocalist with a circle of like minded musicians who would become Dark Tranquillity, drawing on a mix of death metal ferocity and classic heavy metal melody.
