Max Cavalera, born in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, on August 4, 1969, is a highly influential musician known for his distinct voice and pioneering contributions to the heavy metal genre. He formed his first band, Sepultura, in 1984 with his brother Igor, which became a leading force in the death metal and thrash metal scenes throughout the late 1980s and early 1990s. With albums such as 'Beneath the Remains' (1989) and 'Chaos A.D.' (1993), Sepultura gained international acclaim, pushing the boundaries of heavy music and incorporating traditional Brazilian sounds and rhythms into their work, thereby paving the way for the nu-metal genre that followed.
