Layne Staley was born on August 22, 1967, in Kirkland, Washington. He showed a passion for music from an early age, influenced by bands like Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin. Staley formed his first band, Sleze, in 1985, which later transformed into Alice in Chains. Their distinct sound struck a chord in the early 1990s grunge scene, ultimately leading them to sign with Columbia Records.
