Keith Elam, better known by his stage name Guru, was born on July 17, 1966, in Roxbury, Massachusetts. He embarked on his musical journey in the late 1980s, forming the influential hip-hop duo Gang Starr alongside DJ Premier. Their chemistry and dedication to innovative lyricism positioned them as pioneers within the hip-hop community. Elam's thoughtful and introspective lyrics often reflected the struggles and triumphs of urban life, resonating deeply with fans and fellow artists alike. The duo's debut album, 'No More Mr. Nice Guy', released in 1989, marked the beginning of a groundbreaking career that would leave an indelible mark on the genre.
