She was strongly influenced by the sounds of punk rock and indie music during the 90s, leading her to form her first band in high school. Throughout the early stages of her career, Kathy honed her craft by performing at local venues and underground music scenes, making a name for herself as a talented musician and passionate performer. Her dedication to music and her unique songwriting style quickly caught the attention of audiences and fellow musicians alike. Foster gained wider recognition when she joined the renowned band The Thermals in 2003, where she served as the bassist and backing vocalist.
