Joakim Brodén was born on October 5, 1980, in Falun, Sweden, and would become the driving voice behind Sabaton, one of heavy metal's most distinctive storytelling outfits. Brodén and fellow musician Oskar Montelius formed the project in 1999 (initially under the name Sabotage) before adopting Sabaton, a band that would fuse ferocious metal with narrative history. Raised amid Sweden’s vibrant metal underground, he absorbed the ferocity of classic acts like Iron Maiden and Judas Priest while also embracing melodic sensibilities from power metal.
