Biography
Janick Robert Gers was born on January 27, 1957, in Hartlepool, County Durham, England. He began playing guitar during the 1970s, developing a highly animated style influenced by the expressive traditions of British hard rock and heavy metal. Gers became a founding member of the Newcastle-based band White Spirit, whose self-titled debut album appeared in 1980 on MCA Records. The group combined melodic twin-guitar arrangements with the energy of the emerging New Wave of British Heavy Metal. After White Spirit disbanded, Gers joined Ian Gillan’s band in 1981, contributing to the albums Double Trouble and Magic and gaining valuable experience on major tours and stages.
