Hope Sandoval is an American singer-songwriter best known as the lead vocalist of the alternative rock band Mazzy Star. Born on June 24, 1966, in Los Angeles, California, Sandoval developed her profound appreciation for music at an early age, influenced by artists like The Velvet Underground and The Byrds. Her early career began in the late 1980s with the formation of the band Opal, alongside Kendra Smith. Though Opal did not achieve significant commercial success, their music laid the groundwork for Sandoval's distinctive sound characterized by dreamy vocals and melancholic melodies. In 1990, she formed Mazzy Star with guitarist David Roback, which would ultimately define her career.
