Frank Portman, better known by his stage name, Frank Black, is an influential American musician, singer-songwriter, and frontman of the iconic alternative rock band Pixies. Born on April 6, 1965, in Boston, Massachusetts, Portman's early career began with a passion for music that extended into his education. He attended Boston University where he initially studied painting before shifting his focus to music. The formation of the Pixies in 1986 with Black Francis, Joey Santiago, and David Lovering marked the beginning of a powerful musical journey characterized by their unique blend of punk rock and melodic pop.
